Course Description
A course that covers communication theory and develops communication skills for personal and professional relationships in interpersonal group and public settings.Course contact includes practice in the application of the principles of listening, verbal, and nonverbal communication. group dynamics, and public speaking.
Course Learning Objectives
- Recognize the components of the communication process and the types of communication in which human beings engage. (one-on-one, group, and public speaking).
- Recognize and accommodate gender and cultural differences in communication settings and critical listening skills.
- Identify and apply activity and critical listening skills.
- Knowing the roles of free speech and being able to critically evaluate and analyze the message and delivery style of public speakers.
- Recognize and apply techniques for affective communication and problem solving in small task-oriented groups and understanding how people relate to one another in groups and teams.
- Recognize and apply perception and self-monitoring skills to enhance self-awareness and communication competency.
Course Content
Communication, Cultural, and Identity Management
This assignment was very insightful because I had to connect with another person and learn more about their background without me not really knowing who they were.
While I completed this assignment, I realized that behind a person there is a story behind that you never knew about, and it can change your life and make you value the person that is infant of you. It also reminded me how connected immigrants are to their homeland even after not going back but they remember where they are coming from, and they don’t forget their roots.
On this assignment I got to think for a second and think of who I was. I enjoyed working on this assignment because it took me back to think of my roots and where I was born and the person that I have now become and how I view myself as a person. This gave me time to reflect on myself and check who I was and now am becoming.
I chose my topic that is important to the environment reduce and recycle because I find this world cruel sometimes because humans don’t think about others or animals. During this assignment it made me realize that we are hurting ourselves more than we think, and we are finishing our days without realizing it.
During this informative speech I talked about sugar and how it affected us. I enjoyed talking about it because personally I have a sweet tooth and I consume a lot of sugar and it made me realize the damage that it is doing to my body and to other people around the world.
I enjoyed working on my group project because it taught me a lesson to prepare for anything. During this project we started with 4 other people, but it ended up just being me and my partner and we had to work on it just between two people and it made me realize the importance of being prepare for anything and to learning how to become into an agreement with each other and being fair during splitting the work.
